The Most Important Thing About You

A. W. Tozer is quoted as saying "What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us."

Tozer is on to something that we rarely realize, what we believe to be true about God has a direct impact on our actions. Do we truly trust God, do we believe that the way of life exemplified by Jesus is a better way, do we believe that love, forgiveness, grace, and mercy are extended to us by God? Who we believe God is impacts who we are and what we do in big ways.

One component of this issue is that for us, perception is reality. We act on what we believe to be true. If we think that someone doesn't like us or if someone has wronged us, we act on that. If we were wrong about them not liking us or wronging us, then we acted wrongly. Our incorrect perception led to us to act incorrectly. If our perception of who God is, is incorrect - it too leads us to act in incorrect ways.

What do you believe about God? Why do you believe it? Is your perception of God based on who you want God to be or who God is as evidenced by Scripture and the testimony of the Church?
